New glass technology combines aesthetics and functionality for colossal display and sun-blocking solutions

GlassArray

“GlassArray” is a high-speed, dimmable, intelligent glass system that can create animations by varying the transparency and translucency of small areas inside a pane of glass. The patented approach can be used for large-scale urban art and signage, but also for cladding onto building facades to selectively block sunlight and reduce AC costs. Other benefits include privacy control, switchable projection surfaces, and bird collision reduction. With GlassArray, architects, designers, and developers can create interactive walls, pavilions that can automatically provide dynamic shade from the sun, or retrofit existing buildings. The material has a high update rate, low maintenance and electrical consumption, and can be addressed by a variety of data protocols, including DMX.

“GlassArray is a revolutionary technology liberating the display of information from light pollution. We can imagine citites of the future where buildings can react to their surroundings and connect witn citizens without releasing massive amounts of light, with its environmental and health impacts. GlassArray is a rare thing, a tool that allows us to imagine future street landscapes and public spaces that we had not envisioned before, that are both sustainable, calm and humane."
